Longtab Charters is a veteran‑owned and operated party boat charter business on Lake Travis, and the next chapter in the life of Captain Matt Kunard. His military career started right after high school in 1997 and ended with his retirement in 2023. Over those decades Matt served as a Military Police officer, an Infantryman, and ultimately as a Green Beret. He served in the reserves — so when he wasn’t overseas, he wore a different uniform at home.
In 2007, Matt became a firefighter with the Round Rock Fire Department, where he proudly served for 11 years before moving into a law enforcement career he still works today.
Matt moved to the Lake Travis area in 2009, and shortly thereafter discovered his love for motorboats and the lake. Since then he has taken friends and family out for fun and relaxation on every boat he’s owned — from his first, a 19‑ft Bayliner, to his current vessel, a 28‑ft Cobalt 276. After 15 years on the water it was time to put that experience to the test, and Longtab Charters was born.
In 2025, Cpt. Matt decided to start writing the next chapter of his life and established the company. He spent the year earning the necessary licenses and certifications — most of the training was a refresher of skills he’d already used as a soldier and first responder. He also became a USCG licensed boat captain and re‑certified in CPR to provide the safest environment possible for his clients.
That combination of military and first‑responder experience, paired with a personal love of fun on the water, translates into a relaxed and safe day on Lake Travis for anyone who books with him.
Captain Matt holds a current US Coast Guard merchant mariner license.
